Dry shampoo is a savior.
Whether you’re looking for a solution to not washing your hair every day, which is better for it, or just lazy as heck, dry shampoo is the way to go!
Dry shampoo isn’t new, but the news about how toxic conventional dry shampoos are is. Some brands have come under fire for using terrible ingredients, some that even cause cancer.
For example, in late 2022, nineteen dry shampoos were recalled due to their cancer risk. The dry shampoos contained Benzene, a carcinogenic ingredient. Benzene has also recently come under fire as a common ingredient in sunscreen, aerosol deodorants, and more.
I used Acure’s Powder Dry Shampoo several times, but it was hard to hide against my dark hair. In addition, the white powder nearly refused to settle into my roots and blend in. Honestly, it was so rough that I *had* to wash my hair to get the gray tint to disappear. However, if you have lighter hair, Acure’s product is excellent!
If you have dark hair as I do, I have a solution for ya! Inspired by Olivia at Liv Holistic, I tried homemade dry shampoo for the first time. My coworker & friend Amaya suggested using it overnight. 💤 Doing so helps the powder soak in and absorb the oils.
It was a success! I’m never buying dry shampoo again. Once you try this, you won’t be either! My hair felt great the morning after applying the dry shampoo.
This recipe is best for brunettes. However, it can be adjusted for other hair colors. The amounts below are what I used to create my first batch. I plan to add more cocoa powder in the future because the color was slightly too light for my dark af roots.
